How to Lose Weight If You Are an Habitual Overeater and Lack Self-Discipline

I may have written something here that is going to upset you, but I can say with certainty, that I wish someone had known to tell me when I was battling for so many years to lose weight, so be sure that if you are one who overeats habitually, I write this with the utmost sincerity and love.
We who over-eat habitually may have started for a "good" reason: - some have suffered abuse, rejection, childhood trauma, etc. and turned to food for comfort. It was a coping mechanism which served us well at the time. But now it has become a habit that needs to be curtailed by self-discipline.
It is time to stop catering to the flesh, which craves more, and start filling those empty spots with true fulfilment, such as getting closer to God Who will fill the emptiness inside, because it is truly this that makes us overeat - we are searching for real food, and thirsting for real water.
However, the difference between the self-discipline I am referring to, and the self-discipline diets refer to, is that you eat whatever you want, but you only eat when hungry. Anything else is catering to your flesh which will never be satisfied as long as you give into it.
Just to be clear: you are most welcome to eat that chocolate or cake, but only a small serving - because anything else would be gluttony. Can you see the difference? A diet demands that you deprive yourself of chocolates, cake, crisps, bread, etc. I am saying, have it - if you are hungry, or if you crave it. But limit yourself to an appropriate amount that does not smack of being gluttonous.
Some people find it helpful to make their food as bland as possible, so that they learn to stop when full. You could try this for a time too. Because let's be honest: who on earth pigs out on lettuce leaves and tomatoes?!
My suggestion is to take a week to disciplining yourself in all areas of your life, such as getting up earlier, washing the dishes when you don't feel like it, etc. In fact, draw up a list of goals you want to accomplish for that week and stick to them - that is disciplining yourself as well.
I am well aware that the world will not help you with this, for we are told, "do whatever makes you feel good". But where has that gotten you and I exactly? Feeling fat and tired?
Think of areas in your life where you cater too much to your flesh, and write them down. If you are an habitual overeater and want to lose weight permanently, start thinking of ways to practice self-discipline.
As far as eating goes, eat when hungry. Now that I have told you that, you are going to start thinking about it, and noticing how often you actually eat when not hungry, and that is good. It is good to know the truth, because the truth will set you free and give you freedom from being overweight, so that you can lose weight and get thin for good.
We offer a free 60 day "Get Thin for Good" program which focuses on changing the way the overeater thinks about food. The program does not advocate dieting or deprivation - losing weight permanently is about a lifestyle. This program aims to give you freedom from the pain of being overweight.
