The Australians are proud of the food that they produce. Some of this is typically Australian. They may debate as to whether some of it was invented by them or whether it came from another country. Some of the foods, travellers find to be very appealing, while others they don't want to touch. However, the average Australian lives on these. Traditional Australian food recipes is definitely something worth exploring.

The foods vary from healthy meat from and emu. This can be used for a pizza topping. There are other topping used for a meat pie that are very popular. Cakes and biscuits are a favourite among the people in Australia. One of these is Pavlova which is usually made for a big celebration. There are biscuits that go back a long way. Some of them are gourmet and others are more filling.

The Anzac biscuit is famous in these parts, providing one with a snack of oats and coconut with a little golden syrup. This biscuit dates back to World war one when groups of the Anzac soldiers were fighting. Wives of the soldiers would make these biscuits. It was a good snack to have in your pocket because it can last a long time and you can be sure that it is going to fill you up.

Wheat Bix is another favourite of the average Aussie and always has been. It doesn't matter how old you are, Aussies will boast that Wheat Bix is unique to them because it is smaller and sweeter and this sets it above the rest, making it quite average in the rest of the world. It is definitely a favourite to have for breakfast. But it can also make a great snack.

The damper has been around since the beginning of time, starting off as an inexpensive food for workers and people without money. It could be easily made, but now it has been turned into a bread which is made to be more milky. Back in the day, the bread was baked on the fire, but things have advanced since those days.

The prawn cocktail, which was so famous back in the 1970's, was actually created by the Australians. Few people realize this. These are basically prawns which have been shelled in a glass with a mayonnaise and tomato dressing. This took off by storm. Parts of Australia are very sophisticated. Sydney is probably well known for this and one can wine and dine here until the early hours of the morning.

John Dory is usually the fish of choice for the average Australian. This is usually served with chips or mashed potatoes. John Dory can be found mostly in Sydney. Fishing is a big industry and there are a lot of seafood restaurants. There are also a lot of sushi restaurants, particularly in Sydney which are well known run by top rated chefs. Calamari is also another food type that is known to be famous in these parts.

Chicken parmigiana can be found in all of the pubs in the country. It is a dish that began in Italy, but has been modernized as it moved down to Australia. It is basically a chicken schnitzel with a sauce made up of tomato and cheese. There may be ham or prosciutto with the schnitzel as well. This is usually served with a beer and the two go very well together.
